November/ON THE GO!

We have finally finished up our unit on Friends and feelings.  The children really enjoyed this unit and learned many new concepts.  Most have taken on new ideas about friendship and I have seen a positive change in their attitudes towards eachother.

A favorite song for the month was "Won't you be my friend".  The children took turns picking a friends to hold hands with as they paraded around the room.  By the end of the song, we had all children included!  They had soo much fun "turning into a snake" as our friend Cameron called it.

The nature walks in the woods the children really enjoyed also.  We have had to stop these temporalily do to deer hunting season.

Thanks to all who attended  and donated food for our Halloween bash.  Even though we had to hold it after Halloween because of the storm, the children still really enjoyed it.  We missed the children who were not able to attend due to the date.

Our new unit is ON THE GO.   We will also be working on our Seasons, proper clothing for each season and different types of Families.  Please try to set aside a few minutes a day and ask your child about his/her day.  Reference to comments that we write in the parent communication book is a good start.

We will be sending home progress reports to our pre-k and younger children by the end of the month.  If you would like a parent conference please let me know.

REMINDER:  WE WILL BE OPEN ON VETERANS DAY BUT TAKE THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING INSTEAD.

Autumn/TRICK OR TRICK TIME

We have had a very busy and productive September.  Autumn came upon us fast!  The children have kept us busy with no  time to write on our blog.lol

We finished our unit on Feelings and emotions.  The children have learned about sad, angry, tired, surprised and scared.  They learned that all these emotions are okay to feel.  It is the actions that we use that get us into trouble.

Our toddler's are working hard on learning their body parts and colors.

All pre-k's have been working on writing their name.  As parents you are your child's first teacher.  Please take the time each day to help your child practice writing their name.  Only the first letter in their name should be uppercase, the remaining letters are lowercase.  All our preschoolers have conquered their colors and shapes!!

Our kindergartners have been busy learning sight words. Reminder that all children learn at a different pace.  I have your child work to the best of their ability.  By kindergarten I have different lessons based on where your child's zone of development is.

Welcome old and new friends.  We have another great bunch of children this year!!

The children have been busy learning about Friends and emotions.  We are again using the mothergoose preschool program. http://www.mothergoosetime.com/curriculum/curriculum.php
Please visit this site for an understanding of what your child will be learning throughout the year.  I do however take about two months to go through a one month curriculum.  We will be learning about Friends and emotions through October.  I prefer to go" a mile wide and a mile long" instead of going "two straight miles" in teaching the children concepts and ideas.

I also supplement the children's basic skills lessons and add themed activities for each month.

Our fall field trips have been planned so please view the field trip tab on the right to access the information that will be needed.  Permission slip is hanging on the Parent Board.

Our book bag mouse began his adventures with his new friends this week.  The children voted on a name for our little stuffed mouse.  His full name is: CHESTNUT WHISKERS MOUSEY.

If you happen to take a digital picture of your child and Chestnut and would like me to post it, please send it to me via email and I will add to our facebook and blog page.

Our scholastic book orders are due today.  The class code to order online is GMMFL.  October book orders will go home on Monday.https://clubs2.scholastic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/LogonForm

The tentative Halloween parade/pot luck will be October 30th.  I believe this is also Treat or treat night for the little guys.  In years past, it has always worked out great.  The teachers dress the children and apply make-up if needed.  We do our walk, they eat dinner and go on their magical treat or treat adventure.  I will post a pot luck dinner sign up on the parent board in a couple weeks.

Also in the process of planning our curious creature party from the fundraiser/circus party this summer.

HAPPY SUMMER!!

We had a great end of the year Party and graduation.  The children did a great job on their graduation hats.  This party was bitter/sweet this year because we had to say goodbye to two great friends; Clodagh and Jayden.  They had been in my care for a few years and we had all formed strong bonds.  I and the rest of the gang will miss them greatly.  Although they both took a piece of my heart when they left, it is this piece that will bond us forever~~!!  I know they both have great adventures ahead of them.  Good Luck Clodagh and Jayden.  They have both been invited to attend field trips with us this summer.  I hope they will be able to come.

Our summer camp theme is Meet me at the Circus!  We will be learning about circus acts and we will have our own circus at the end of the summer.  The learning never stops at O.T.R.B.  We still incorporate learning into our daily schedule.  The only difference is that we are reviewing through the summer to keep skills strong for new learning in the fall.  After assessments, some children do get some extra work if I feel they are fuzzy in a particular skill or subject.

Field trips got underway this week.  We had a great time! All the children had on their best behavior.  They all shared and took turns with the playground equipment, which is not always an easy task so they should be commended.

Remember to check the link page for field trip info.

March news

We are approaching spring fast!  I cant believe how quick the winter has past.  With camera troubles behind me I will again be posting at least monthly.

We had fun the month of February learning about keeping our teeth clean.  A special thanks to Caden's Mom for the toothbrushes, floss and toothpaste.  Please remember to pass in the teeth cleaning charts to receive a prize.  Remember it is okay if days are missing,  effort only is needed for the prize.

We also had fun making a post office out of a refrigerator box.  Unfortunately these photo's were lost due to a camera malfunction in Mexico.  We  practiced our addresses and learned how to address an envelope.  We took turns be the post officers and the mail delivery people.  Our youngest friends just wanted to play "big scary monster" in our post office.  We will be turning our box into a doctors office and a vet during this month.

Our Pre-K's and kindergartners have been working hard on their sight words and pre reading skills!  We finished our rhyming unit and they are all sounding out 3 letter words. WE also have had two new friends join us this past month.  Olivia is "our new baby" the children all adore her.  Caleb is our new playmate.  Joe and Cam like to follow him around and Bryn has decided he is her new "boyfriend"  Joe and Cam aren't too happy about this!!lol

On Tuesday we celebrated read across America day in celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday.  We made green eggs and ham for breakfast.  The children whom ate the green eggs all received a prize.  All the children brave enough to try them received a piece of candy.(scrambled eggs with food coloring)  Ms. Melissa painted all the children up like cats and we enjoyed reading DR. Seuss books all week.

Our theme for the next 6 weeks will be in the pond.  We will be learning about the animals that live in and around the pond and how things grow and change around the pond from winter to spring.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy new year to all!  I hope all had a wonderful holiday.  Now that the holidays are over we will be getting back into our curriculum.

With our homework calendar not doing so well, I decided to send home a family homework assignment this month once a week.  I will also be sending home the monthly book list.  Again, please fill the books you read with your child throughout the month and how many times you read it.  At the end of the month, all children who return this sheet will get a special treat.  I decided at the end of this month, the children who do their homework and book list will get a trip to McDonald's or pizza hut!  I know we all have busy lives, but 5 minutes before bed is all it takes to give your child a head start.  Studies have shone that children who are read to are successful in school.

The letters of the month are Ii and Gg and a review of Ss. The numbers will be 4, 5, 14, and 15.  Your child may bring in any objects for show and tell that correspond with these.  No random toys may be shone at show and tell.  The only exception is the toddlers.  They may bring in items of a certain color.

Hopefully within the next week or two, we will be getting some snow.  Please make sure your child has all the appropriate gear.  We will still go outside daily, even if only for a few minutes.  We will be sledding daily when available.  Please make sure your child's hat fits under his/her helmet so they can go sledding.  A lot of children have outgrown their helmets.  Please check your child's helmet and supply a thin hat to wear under the helmet.  Also  insulated mittens work best in keeping the fingers warm in the  snow; if the mittens are big enough they can also wear a thin pair of gloves under to help keep their hands warm.  Snow pants need to fit tight over their boots or the snow gets inside their boots and causes cold legs and toes.

recycle items needed:
odd socks
large boxes
buttons
empty spice jars

WE ARE OPEN ON MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY
